Stan Kroenke stands to lose millions as Gabriel Jesus decides his Arsenal future
Gabriel Jesus has been at Arsenal since the summer of 2021.
The Gunners signed him from Manchester City, and he played a huge part in helping the club become title contenders.
However, since his first injury during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Jesus has struggled to remain fit, and that has been a big problem.
The expectation is that Arsenal will sell Jesus in one of the two transfer windows in 2026. But the Brazilian has a different plan.
Jesus has now revealed that he plans to stay at Arsenal until his contract expires in the summer of 2027. That puts the Gunners in a very difficult position.
The 28-year-old ranks second in Arsenal’s highest-paid players list, earning a whopping £265,000 every week. That equates to more than £13.7 million a year.
So, if Jesus gets his wish and stays at the Emirates beyond the end of this season, Stan Kroenke will have to pay him over £13 million in his final year.
That would be really frustrating for the Arsenal owner because the Brazil international will not be a regular, even though he has returned to fitness now ahead of the game against Tottenham.
Arsenal have already dealt with a similar situation before
Arsenal have historically been terrible sellers, and they have had to take some drastic steps to push players out the door in the past.
One example is Mesut Ozil.
The German was Arsenal’s highest-paid player, but after he fell out with Mikel Arteta in 2020, the Gunners had to pay him his huge wages for several months for nothing.
In January of the following year, Arsenal reached an agreement with Ozil to terminate his contract, and he joined Fenerbahce on a free transfer.
It remains to be seen if the Premier League leaders will have to do the same thing with Jesus if he refuses to leave the club in 2026.
