Rice’s influence on the team, especially his defensive midfield work, ball recovery, and leadership, has earned him praise across Europe, even from players with strong ties to rival clubs such as Kane.
While Rice is not a defender in the strict sense, his hybrid role — shielding the back line, orchestrating defensive transitions, and covering large areas of the pitch — means his contributions often overlap with defensive responsibilities. For Kane to publicly highlight Rice’s importance demonstrates a genuine appreciation for quality, regardless of club affiliations.
