According to Inter Vice-President Javier Zanetti, the Serie A champions will compete with Arsenal for Joshua Zirkzee, a striker for Bologna, this summer.
With 11 goals and four assists, Zirkzee has been one of Bologna’s top players as they are poised to play in the Champions League the next season.
Arsenal is keeping an eye on the 22-year-old ahead of the summer transfer window because Mikel Arteta wants the team to sign a new striker before the 2019–20 campaign begins.
Bologna is reportedly asking for €60 million [£51.3 million] in exchange for Zirkzee, who they signed for €8.5 million [£7.1 million] from Bayern Munich in August 2022.
Additionally, Inter is looking into the idea of incorporating Zirkzee into their summer offensive.
Zanetti said to Radio TV Serie A when questioned about a possible transfer for Zirkzee: “Zirkzee is a great champion.”
We are discussing a young athlete who possesses exceptional talent, intelligence, and physical strength.
Any excellent team striving for significant objectives would benefit from having someone like that.
“Let us see… we can consider it if the opportunity presents itself.”
We would have a young, potent assault with Zirkzee, Lautaro Martinez, and Marcus Thuram. They would offer us comfort.
In addition, Zanetti was questioned if he had “forgiven” Romelu Lukaku, the Chelsea striker who had spent the season on loan at Inter and had made it clear he wanted to stay, after the striker had unsuccessfully lobbied for a move to Juventus the previous season.
“I am not sure if forgiving is the appropriate word,” Zaneti remarked.
Above all, we were let down by the timing and his lack of clarity right from the start. But I hope he has a wonderful career.
