Ben Roethlisberger sends clear message to Mike Tomlin and Steelers about Aaron Rodgers as starting quarterback

Posted on April 4, 2025 by admin

Ben Roethlisberger isn’t holding back in discussing the Steelers’ quarterback scenario. As Aaron Rodgers remains uncertain, Big Ben conveys an emphatic message to Mike Tomlin and Pittsburgh’s management.

Ben Roethlisberger is not holding anything back. If Aaron Rodgers is unsure about playing for Mike Tomlin, the Pittsburgh Steelers icon acknowledged on his Footbahlin podcast that Mason Rudolph can steer the team next season.

“Mason is able to throw the ball, make choices, and proceed.” Mason is able to deliver the ball to the guys. He is capable of throwing. Mason is able to throw the ball. It’s never been in doubt. He is able to attract men. He is able to decide and release the ball from his hand. He’s also unafraid to throw passes long down the field. You know, that’s one aspect I believe that as you observed Mason during his time here and then in Tennessee, like he’s not one of those players who gets anxious and rushes to pass the ball immediately.”

Rodgers appears to be holding out for the Vikings, as they are a Super Bowl contender and may possess a stronger roster than the Steelers. Nevertheless, Minnesota has announced to the public that their starting quarterback is J.J. McCarthy.

Who will be the initial quarterback for the Steelers?
If Aaron Rodgers turns down Pittsburgh’s offer, Mason Rudolph will be the starting quarterback for the Steelers. Roethlisberger believes that Mike Tomlin should not question that this is a solid option, given that there are no major players remaining in free agency.

“He’ll sit in there and he’ll throw it down the field. I think that’s what you got to do when you have George Pickens and DK Metcalf. Those are deep down the field type guys. So, if you don’t end up getting Aaron, which is what I think you’d want if you want to make your offense a wider net offense and create more things. If you don’t end up getting him, I think you can stick with Mason and be happy with what you’re gonna get.”
