49ers’ Brock Purdy gets $171 million contract update

Posted on April 13, 2025 by admin

The Brock Purdy contract saga rolls on.

The San Francisco 49ers still appear to be a long way from a deal with their franchise quarterback.

But one thing has come into focus pretty much for certain: Purdy is going to set a 49ers record.

That’s what SI’s Grant Cohn wrote on Saturday: “(The deal) will make him the highest-paid player in franchise history.”

Cohn is also concerned about the timing, predicting that Purdy will hold out until early September.

There’s one thing we can take away concretely from that.

The 49ers’ current highest-paid player ever is Nick Bosa, who previously signed a five-year, $170 million deal.

So there you have it: Purdy is going to get at least $171 million.

It’ll likely be a decent chunk more. If the 49ers give Purdy four or five years at a minimum of $5 million per, he’ll go well over the Bosa contract.

There are still some who expect Purdy to end up with the record of more than $60 million per year, but it seems likely the 49ers would be reluctant to pay that.

And if San Francisco decided not to pay Purdy, someone else would. They’ll just have to pony up franchise-record money to keep their QB.
