Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike has expressed strong belief that the Reds are ready to put last season’s disappointments behind them and challenge for major honours in the new campaign.
The French forward insisted that the squad has learned valuable lessons from a difficult year and is determined to reward supporters with a much stronger season.
Speaking ahead of the new Premier League campaign, Ekitike said confidence remains high within the dressing room despite the setbacks of the previous season.
“We know last season was not good enough for a club like Liverpool,” Ekitike reportedly said. “The expectations at this club are always to compete for every trophy. We were all disappointed with how things went, but football always gives you another opportunity. This season is our chance to show our true quality.”
Liverpool endured an inconsistent campaign that fell below the standards expected at Anfield. Injuries, inconsistent performances and missed opportunities prevented the club from mounting a sustained challenge for the biggest trophies. However, Ekitike believes those experiences have only strengthened the squad’s mentality.
“The difficult moments have made us stronger,” he continued. “Sometimes you have to experience disappointment to become a better team. Everyone has returned with a different mindset. We want to work harder, fight harder and prove ourselves again.”
The 24-year-old striker praised the determination shown by his teammates throughout pre-season, highlighting the intensity of training sessions and the positive atmosphere around the squad.
“The energy has been fantastic. Every player is pushing each other every day. There is healthy competition for places, and that is exactly what a big club needs. Everyone wants to earn their position, and that can only improve the team.”
Ekitike also spoke about the importance of the Liverpool supporters, describing them as one of the club’s greatest strengths.
“Our fans never stop believing in us. Even during difficult moments, they continue to support the team. We feel that support every single match. Now it’s our responsibility to give them performances they can be proud of.”
The French international believes Liverpool possess enough quality across every position to compete with the strongest teams in England and Europe.
“We have experienced leaders, talented young players and world-class footballers throughout the squad. If we stay focused, avoid injuries and continue improving together, I believe we can have a very successful season.”
Ekitike also emphasised the importance of starting the campaign strongly.
“A good start builds confidence. Every match is important because the Premier League is one of the toughest competitions in the world. We have to be consistent from the very beginning.”
The striker revealed that his personal ambition is not only to score goals but also to contribute to the team’s overall success.
“Goals are important for every striker, but winning matches is what matters most. If I can help the team by scoring, creating chances or working hard defensively, then I’ll be happy. Football is always about the team.”
Liverpool’s players have spent pre-season working to improve their tactical understanding and fitness levels, with the coaching staff demanding greater intensity both on and off the ball. Ekitike believes those preparations will pay off once the competitive fixtures begin.
“We’ve worked extremely hard in training. Everyone knows what is expected. The standards are very high, and that’s exactly how it should be at Liverpool.”
He concluded with a confident message for supporters ahead of the new season.
“We know people expect a response after last season, and we expect the same from ourselves. We are hungry, motivated and ready to fight. Liverpool belongs at the top, and we will do everything possible to bring success back to this football club. We believe this season will be much better, and we want to make our supporters proud again.”
With optimism growing around Anfield, Liverpool will hope to turn those encouraging words into performances on the pitch. If Ekitike and his teammates can translate their determination into consistent results, the Reds could once again establish themselves among the leading contenders for domestic and European honours.
