BREAKING: Kvaratskhelia announced his joining…see more

Posted on August 17, 2026 by admin

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is reportedly open to the possibility of joining Manchester United this summer, a development that could spark one of the biggest transfer stories of the window and give Michael Carrick another major attacking option as the Red Devils prepare for the new Premier League campaign.

Manchester United have been linked with the Paris Saint-Germain winger for several months, with reports suggesting that the Georgian international has emerged as a potential target as Carrick continues to reshape his squad. While there has been no official confirmation that Kvaratskhelia has asked PSG to sell him, his name continues to appear in reports surrounding Manchester United, and the possibility of a move to Old Trafford has generated significant attention.

The interest is understandable. Kvaratskhelia has established himself as one of the most exciting attacking players in European football, and his performances for PSG during the 2025/26 season elevated his reputation even further. UEFA named him the Champions League Player of the Season after he scored 10 goals and provided six assists in 16 appearances during PSG’s successful campaign.

For Manchester United, bringing in a player of that quality would represent a major statement of ambition. Carrick has already overseen a remarkable improvement at Old Trafford, helping United climb the Premier League table and secure Champions League football. The club has also strengthened its midfield with the arrivals of Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, showing that the recruitment team is attempting to build a squad capable of competing at the highest level again.

Kvaratskhelia would add a completely different dimension to United’s attack. The Georgian is naturally comfortable operating from the left side, but his technical ability allows him to move into central areas, combine with teammates and create opportunities without needing to remain fixed to the touchline. His ability to beat defenders one-on-one would be particularly valuable for a Manchester United side looking to become more unpredictable in the final third.

His dribbling remains one of his greatest strengths. Kvaratskhelia is capable of receiving the ball under pressure, turning away from defenders and carrying possession deep into opposition territory. He can also create shooting opportunities for himself, making him difficult for defenders to manage because they cannot simply concentrate on preventing him from crossing.

That combination of creativity, pace and directness is exactly why Manchester United supporters would be excited by the possibility of seeing him at Old Trafford.

The biggest obstacle, however, would be PSG. Kvaratskhelia only joined the French giants from Napoli in January 2025 and quickly became an important member of Luis Enrique’s squad. PSG paid around €70 million for him, and reports have indicated that the French champions would expect a significant fee if they were ever prepared to consider his departure. One report in March suggested PSG had communicated an asking price of at least £68 million to interested clubs.

That means Manchester United would have to make a substantial financial commitment to complete the transfer.

The timing also makes the situation particularly complicated. Kvaratskhelia has just enjoyed arguably the finest season of his career. His Champions League performances were outstanding, and he scored for PSG in their 2-1 UEFA Super Cup victory over Aston Villa on August 12, 2026.

PSG have therefore been given very little reason to actively push him toward the exit door.

The French club’s attacking options are also extremely strong. Kvaratskhelia plays alongside some of Europe’s most talented forwards, including Ousmane Dembélé and Désiré Doué, while PSG have recently added Maghnes Akliouche from Monaco. Reuters reported that Akliouche joined PSG in August in a deal estimated by French media at approximately €50 million.

Nevertheless, the possibility of Kvaratskhelia becoming available has continued to attract Premier League interest. Manchester United are not believed to be alone in monitoring the situation, with Arsenal and Liverpool also having been linked with the Georgian winger.

For United, the attraction goes beyond simply signing another winger.

Carrick is attempting to create an attack capable of challenging the best teams in England, and Kvaratskhelia would give him another elite-level player who can change games individually. Against teams that defend deep, United could use his ability to break defensive lines through dribbling and quick combinations. Against teams that press high, his ability to carry the ball could provide an important outlet.

His arrival could also increase competition within United’s attacking unit. Manchester United already possess several talented forwards, but Carrick will need depth if the club is serious about competing on multiple fronts. The return of Champions League football means United will have considerably more demanding fixtures than they had during their previous campaign.

Kvaratskhelia’s experience at the highest level of European competition would therefore be particularly useful.

He has already demonstrated that he can perform when the pressure is greatest. His 10 goals and six assists in last season’s Champions League were not accumulated against weak opposition. He repeatedly delivered during the knockout stages, including two goals against Bayern Munich in the semi-final first leg. UEFA’s technical observers ultimately selected him as the competition’s outstanding player.

That experience could make him an ideal signing for a Manchester United team preparing to return to Europe’s elite competition.

There is also the question of whether Kvaratskhelia himself would be attracted by the opportunity to play in the Premier League. Manchester United remain one of the world’s most recognisable football clubs, and a move to Old Trafford would offer the Georgian the chance to establish himself in English football while becoming one of the central figures of Carrick’s rebuilding project.

A move would also provide him with a new challenge after achieving extraordinary success in Paris.

However, it is important to separate transfer speculation from confirmed information. Recent reporting has also indicated that Kvaratskhelia’s camp has previously expressed a desire for him to remain at PSG. Goal reported in May that his father, Badri Kvaratskhelia, said the winger had no intention of leaving Paris during the summer.

That makes any claim that Kvaratskhelia is definitely joining Manchester United premature.

The situation could nevertheless change quickly if PSG receive a huge offer and the player becomes convinced that a move to England represents the next step in his career. Transfer windows often produce developments that appear unlikely only weeks earlier, particularly when elite players are involved.

Manchester United’s financial position could also influence the negotiations. Carrick confirmed earlier this month that United would not make a £100 million signing this summer because of financial constraints, despite the club already spending heavily on strengthening the squad.

That would make a potential Kvaratskhelia transfer difficult unless PSG lowered their expectations or United generated significant funds through player sales.

There is also the question of whether United should prioritise a winger at this stage of the window. Carrick has several areas to address, and defensive depth has been identified as one of the squad’s concerns. Spending a huge amount on Kvaratskhelia could therefore require the club to carefully balance its recruitment priorities.

Yet if the opportunity to sign one of Europe’s best attacking players became realistic, United would surely have to consider it.

Kvaratskhelia would immediately raise the technical quality of the team. His ability to operate between the lines, attack defenders and create chances could give United another weapon alongside Bruno Fernandes and the club’s other attacking options.

For Carrick, the challenge would be finding the perfect tactical role for him.

The Georgian’s natural position is on the left, where he can cut inside onto his stronger right foot. From there, he can either shoot, slide a pass into the penalty area or continue driving toward goal. He can also combine with overlapping full-backs, creating the kind of attacking overloads that make it difficult for opponents to defend.

A player like Kvaratskhelia could also give United greater flexibility during matches. If opponents close down the centre of the pitch, he can provide width. If defenders move wide to stop him, he can attack the spaces created inside.

This versatility would be especially valuable in the Premier League, where United will face a wide variety of defensive systems.

The prospect of Kvaratskhelia joining United has therefore generated excitement, but the club would need to overcome significant obstacles before the transfer could become reality. PSG have little obvious reason to sell a player who was instrumental in their Champions League success, and the winger remains under contract with the French club until 2029.

Manchester United would consequently need to present a compelling proposal both financially and sporting-wise.

If they can do that, however, Kvaratskhelia could become one of the most important signings of Carrick’s reign.

The transfer would represent more than simply adding another attacker. It would demonstrate that Manchester United are once again capable of competing for players who are already established among Europe’s elite. After years of rebuilding and uncertainty, that would be a significant psychological boost for the club.

For supporters, the idea of seeing Kvaratskhelia wearing the famous red shirt is naturally appealing. His style of football fits the traditional expectations of Manchester United: fearless attacking, creativity, individual brilliance and the ability to produce something unexpected when a match appears to be heading nowhere.

The road to a deal remains complicated, and current reporting does not establish that the transfer is imminent. But with Manchester United reportedly monitoring the situation and the player repeatedly being linked with a potential Premier League move, Kvaratskhelia’s future is certainly a storyline worth watching as the summer transfer window approaches its September 1 deadline.

If Manchester United can convince PSG to negotiate and persuade Kvaratskhelia that Old Trafford is the right destination for the next stage of his career, the Georgian could become the marquee attacking signing that takes Carrick’s project to another level.

For now, the possibility remains just that — a possibility. But given Kvaratskhelia’s extraordinary rise, his Champions League pedigree and Manchester United’s ambitions under Carrick, even the prospect of a move is enough to make this one of the most intriguing transfer stories surrounding the club this summer.
