BREAKING: Micheal Carrick announced Amad Diallo will leave…see more

Posted on August 21, 2026 by admin

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has reportedly admitted that Amad Diallo’s future at Old Trafford could become one of the major talking points before the summer transfer window closes, with uncertainty surrounding the Ivory Coast international despite his importance to the squad.

The situation has immediately attracted attention among United supporters, particularly because Diallo has previously been regarded as one of the club’s most exciting young attacking players.

Amad has been involved in Carrick’s plans since the manager took permanent charge of the club, and recent reports have suggested that United have been reluctant to consider selling him. In fact, earlier reports indicated that the club viewed the 23-year-old as an important part of the long-term project and had no intention of allowing him to leave this summer.

However, football can change quickly, especially during the final stages of a transfer window. With Manchester United continuing to reshape their squad under Carrick, competition for places in attack is becoming increasingly intense. New additions and tactical changes could force the manager and the club to make difficult decisions over which players remain central to the project and which players could be allowed to move elsewhere.

Amad’s situation is particularly interesting because he has already demonstrated that he possesses the technical qualities required to succeed at Manchester United. His ability to operate from the right side, combine with midfielders, carry the ball into dangerous areas and create opportunities makes him a valuable option. Carrick has also previously used him in a more advanced attacking role, a change that reportedly suited the player better than the wing-back responsibilities he sometimes had under Ruben Amorim.

There have been indications that Amad himself wants to remain at Manchester United and fight for his place. Reports from July stated that the Ivorian had no desire to leave the club despite interest from other teams, while Carrick was said to be keen on keeping him as United prepared for their return to Champions League football.

That makes any suggestion that Amad could leave particularly significant. If Carrick has indeed acknowledged that a departure is possible, it would suggest that the manager understands that circumstances could change before the transfer window shuts. It would not necessarily mean that United are actively trying to sell the player, but rather that the club may be prepared to consider an offer if the right circumstances emerge.

The biggest factor could be competition within United’s attacking department. Carrick is attempting to build a squad capable of competing across the Premier League, Champions League and domestic competitions, and that requires depth. United have already made significant changes to their midfield, bringing in players such as Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, while the club has also continued to explore further additions.

At the same time, Amad faces competition from several players for attacking positions. Bryan Mbeumo has been brought into the squad, while other forwards can operate from the right, left or centrally. Carrick therefore has to decide whether Amad is capable of establishing himself as a regular starter or whether his importance will primarily come as part of a rotation system.

For Amad, regular playing time will be crucial. At 23, he is entering an important stage of his career. He has already spent several seasons developing at Manchester United, and the next few years could determine whether he becomes an established Premier League star or remains a talented player who struggles to secure a consistent starting position.

The Champions League could also play a major role in the situation. United’s return to Europe’s biggest competition gives Amad an opportunity to demonstrate his quality on a bigger stage. Carrick will need players capable of changing matches, and Amad’s creativity could become especially valuable against European opponents who defend differently from Premier League teams.

Interestingly, Amad himself has previously expressed strong support for Carrick. Earlier this year, he praised the manager and said United’s players were very happy with his work, while highlighting Carrick’s relationship with the squad and his understanding of the club.

That relationship could ultimately prove decisive. A manager who trusts a player can make an enormous difference, particularly for a young footballer looking for confidence and consistency. If Carrick continues to give Amad opportunities, there may be little reason for the player to push for an exit.

Nevertheless, Manchester United have to consider the financial side of the situation. The club are operating under financial constraints and have already invested heavily in rebuilding the squad. Recent reports have highlighted United’s spending on midfield reinforcements, while Carrick has acknowledged that the club must work within financial limitations rather than simply spending enormous sums on every target.

A substantial offer for Amad could therefore create a difficult situation. United would have to weigh the immediate financial benefit against the long-term footballing value of keeping a young and technically gifted attacker. Selling him could provide funds for another position, but it could also leave Carrick without one of his most naturally creative options.

There is also the question of Amad’s market value. His performances for Ivory Coast have increased his profile, with reports highlighting impressive displays during the 2026 World Cup, including goals that attracted attention from potential suitors.

That could make the final weeks of the window particularly interesting. If clubs believe Amad is available, approaches could arrive quickly. Manchester United would then have to decide whether to reject them immediately or listen to proposals depending on the size and structure of the offer.

From Carrick’s perspective, the ideal scenario would probably be to keep Amad and develop him further. United are entering a season in which the squad will be tested by a demanding schedule, and having several quality attackers is essential. Injuries, suspensions, fatigue and tactical changes can quickly turn a player who appears to be a substitute into an important starter.

Amad’s versatility could therefore be one of his biggest advantages. He can play wide, operate closer to the midfield and contribute in advanced positions. His left foot also provides a different profile from some of United’s other attackers, giving Carrick the opportunity to alter the team’s attacking structure without necessarily changing the personnel dramatically.

The situation could also depend on how Carrick’s preferred system develops. United are expected to use a 4-2-3-1 structure, with Amad capable of operating from the right side behind the striker. Recent previews have even identified him as a potential starter in that position for United’s opening Premier League fixture.

If Amad starts the season strongly, the possibility of a departure could quickly disappear. A run of impressive performances would make it considerably harder for United to justify selling him, particularly if he becomes one of Carrick’s most productive attacking players.

On the other hand, if Amad struggles to secure minutes, the situation could become more complicated. The player would understandably want assurances about his role, while United would have to determine whether keeping him as a rotation option represents the best use of the squad and its financial resources.

For now, the most important point is that reports of a possible departure should not automatically be interpreted as confirmation that Manchester United want to sell Amad. Earlier reports have strongly indicated the opposite, with the club reportedly viewing him as part of its long-term plans and planning to reject approaches.

That contradiction is exactly what makes the story so intriguing. On one side, there is clear evidence that Manchester United value Amad and that the player himself wants to remain at Old Trafford. On the other, transfer windows are unpredictable, and Carrick has to make decisions based on the needs of the entire squad.

United supporters will therefore be watching the situation closely. Amad is a player many fans believe still has enormous potential, and allowing him to leave just as he enters his prime years could become a controversial decision if he eventually develops into a top-level attacker elsewhere.

Carrick will ultimately have the final say on the footballing side of the decision. The manager has already shown that he is willing to make difficult choices as he rebuilds Manchester United, and his priority will be creating a squad capable of competing at the highest level.

For Amad, the message should be simple: fight for the shirt. If he can establish himself as a consistent performer under Carrick, create goals, score important goals and prove that he belongs among United’s first-choice attackers, there will be little reason for the club to consider letting him go.

But if serious offers arrive and United need to make room for further additions, the situation could change rapidly.

For now, Amad Diallo remains a Manchester United player and a significant part of the club’s attacking options. Reports earlier in the summer have pointed toward the club wanting him to stay, while Amad himself has reportedly been determined to remain and compete for his place.

The coming weeks, however, could determine whether that stance remains unchanged. With the transfer window approaching its closing stages and Carrick continuing to shape his Manchester United squad, Amad’s future is likely to remain a subject of intense discussion.

If the Ivorian gets the opportunities he is looking for and takes them, he could turn the uncertainty surrounding his future into a powerful new chapter at Old Trafford. But if competition increases and a major offer arrives, Manchester United may once again find themselves facing one of the most difficult decisions of the transfer window.

For now, the door may not be completely closed. And that alone could be enough to keep Manchester United fans watching closely until the final hours of the summer transfer window.
