Both ARSENAL and Bayern Munich, quarterfinalists in the Champions League, are reportedly pursuing Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi. This presents a challenge for both teams both on and off the field.
Ahead of the 2024 summer transfer window, the midfield player “remains on the list” as the Emirates Stadium’s top transfer target.
In an effort to enhance their present team before the upcoming campaign, sporting director Edu Gaspar and manager Mikel Arteta are looking to add to the Gunners’ roster.
Zubimendi has become a highly sought-after player and one of La Liga’s best midfielders.
Furthermore, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealed that Arteta’s team is interested in the 25-year-old.
He does, however, add that in order to sign the Spanish international, they will have to compete with Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern Munich.
“Understand Martin Zubimendi remains on Arsenal list,” he tweeted. Also, he was at the top of Bayern’s priority list in the event that Xabi Alonso was appointed head coach.
Bayern still views Zubimendi as one of their targets, but the next manager will make the ultimate call. Nothing is said about Barca.”
This implies that Arsenal needs to outperform its German competitors in the transfer market as well before taking on Bayern Munich in the Champions League later this month.
Despite adding Declan Rice to their roster last year, Arsenal is eager to strengthen their midfield.
After moving up the ranks at Sociedad, Zubimendi has made a name for himself as an important member of Imanol Alguacil’s team.
Before losing badly to Paris Saint-Germain, he guided the La Liga team to the Champions League’s round of sixteen.
With three years remaining on his deal, Sociedad appears to be taking its time selling the Spain international.
“I have never planned to leave Real Sociedad, I always say that,” Zubimendi declared. I’m really happy and I enjoy my life here at home.
“The values of this club are the same as mine so I feel very good, I always said that I’m happy.”
It might be difficult for Zubimendi to refuse the opportunity to play in the Premier League for one of Europe’s most successful teams, though.
