The Pittsburgh Steelers have been making some intriguing moves in the lead-up to the 2025 NFL Draft. According to reports, they’ve hosted Texas Longhorns running back Jaydon Blue on a top 30 visit.
Blue, known for his speed and explosiveness, has impressed scouts with his ability to make defenders miss in tight spaces. “He moves with electricity in his feet,” says Dane Brugler, lead draft analyst at The Athletic. Brugler also notes that Blue is “at his best as a pass catcher on screens, angles and wheels.”
However, Brugler also highlights some concerns about Blue’s suitability for a full-time role, citing his body type and limited touches in college. “He doesn’t have the body type for full-time carries,” Brugler warns. Additionally, Brugler lists ball security as a “major question mark” due to seven fumbles from 2023-2024.
Despite these concerns, Blue’s dynamic talent could upgrade a backfield, and he’s projected as a fifth-round talent by Brugler.
The Steelers have also hosted other prospects, including Toledo defensive tackle Darius Alexander. Alexander, ranked seventh best defensive tackle in the draft class by Brugler, has impressed with his length, athleticism, and body control. “He’s rangy defending the run, with the body fluidity and length to displace blocks,” Brugler says.
Alexander’s peak plays have been compared to those of former top-six pick Leonard Williams. While he didn’t rack up a ton of impact stats at Toledo, he’s projected to be a second- or third-round pick.
The Steelers’ interest in these prospects suggests they’re looking to bolster their roster in the lead-up to the draft. With Najee Harris leaving in free agency, the team’s RB1 role is up for grabs, and Blue could be a complementary piece to a lead back.
