The New York Jets are in dire need of offensive weapons to support their new quarterback, Justin Fields.
NFL analyst and former quarterback Kurt Benkert has named the Jets as a strong contender to land Buffalo Bills wide receiver Amari Cooper, according to Bleacher Report.
“I see the Jets as a logical destination for Amari Cooper,” Benkert noted. “With Davante Adams gone, Allen Lazard as their No. 2 option, and Garrett Wilson struggling as the sole deep threat, Cooper could provide the boost they need.”
Cooper, who just completed his $100 million contract originally signed with the Dallas Cowboys, has spent the past five seasons playing for the Cowboys, Cleveland Browns, and most recently, the Bills.
Wilson Needs Offensive Support to Reach His Full Potential
Before Adams joined the Jets, Wilson faced tough matchups against opposing teams’ top cornerbacks, limiting his production. However, after Adams’ arrival, Wilson’s stats improved significantly as defenses shifted their focus.
Benkert emphasized that adding another playmaker like Cooper would prevent teams from double-teaming Wilson, giving the Jets a much-needed offensive balance.
Cooper’s Experience Could Be a Game-Changer for New York
A five-time Pro Bowl selection, Cooper has been one of the league’s most consistent receivers since being drafted fourth overall in 2015. Over his career, he has totaled 711 receptions, 10,033 yards, and 64 touchdowns.
Initially projected to sign a two-year, $30 million deal with $25 million guaranteed, Cooper’s value may have dipped due to a slow-moving veteran receiver market. That could make him an affordable yet impactful addition to the Jets’ roster.
With the team searching for a reliable No. 2 receiver, Cooper’s experience and talent could make him an ideal fit for New York in 2025.
