Legacy Lives On: Packers Free-Agent Signing to Wear Charles Woodson’s Iconic Number
Hey, remember when the Green Bay Packers signed cornerback Charles Woodson from the Raiders and he ended up making four All-Pro teams with Green Bay on the way to a Lombardi Trophy? Well, the Packers are apparently trying to recapture a little of that magic.
According to free-agent signing Nate Hobbs’ Instagram story, the team is going to give him the number 21, which was previously worn by Woodson.
Notably, former first-round safety Darnell Savage Jr. attempted to change his number to 21 during his rookie season but remained with number 26, which he wore at one point at Maryland. Since Woodson, only three players have worn number 21: first-round defensive backs Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Eric Stokes and 2018 pickup Natrell Jamerson, who only played two games for Green Bay.
