The NFL’s legal tampering period begins Monday, March 10, at noon Eastern Standard Time, which is the unofficial start of the league’s free agency period.
The Indianapolis Colts have multiple needs they could address, arguably their biggest being in the secondary. They need to add talent at corner and safety, and the market has numerous solid options for them to consider. The corner market is gaining a couple of additional options for teams to consider after a recent roster move and a new rumor that could help the Colts’ chances of landing a talented addition to their CB room.
Eagles set to release veteran cornerback Darius Slay
Fresh off their Super Bowl win, the Philadelphia Eagles are set to release veteran CB Darius Slay. He will be a post-June first designation, so he can’t sign with a team until then. However, according to Josina Anderson, the Eagles will allow Slay to speak with teams prior to his official release, which will allow teams to pursue the veteran CB. Slay is 34 years old and expected only to play one more season. So he most likely won’t be considering the Cotls as he looks to join a contender for his last run. But the more options on the market, the better for the Colts as they pursue some of the top free-agent CBs.
Some think the Packers might have to release Jaire Alexander instead of trading him
“Meanwhile, two-time All-Pro Jaire Alexander is available via trade, although most executives believe the Packers will ultimately release him.”
It’s already been reported that the Green Bay Packers and Jaire Alexander are set to part ways this offseason. The two sides are working to find a trade partner for the veteran CB. However, according to Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz, most executives believe the Packers won’t find a partner and will have to release him. Like Slay, I doubt the Colts are on Alexander’s list of potential landing spots. But him hitting the open market will lead at least one contender that is in need of CBs to focus on Alexander and not the Colts’ top options at the position.
