Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon, as per Football Insider.

Since moving to St James’ Park from Everton, the 25-year-old has established himself as a talismanic figure, helping his side win the Carabao Cup last term.

This season, he has been showcasing his productivity, scoring 15 goals and registering five assists in 42 appearances across all competitions. He has even guided the Magpies to reach the Champions League last-16.

Now, Football Insider state that despite recently signing a contract extension at Newcastle, Gordon is currently not happy and is ready to leave during the offseason.

With the Tyneside club currently languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table, they would be forced to sell top players like Gordon in the summer if they fail to secure Champions League football next season.

Arsenal have registered their interest in signing him and could make a concrete approach over the coming months. However, Liverpool are in this race as well and were previously leading to seal the deal.

Gordon is from Liverpool and is a boyhood Reds fan despite coming through Everton’s youth system. So, he is prepared to move to Anfield, and Mikel Arteta’s side will have to put their best efforts to persuade the player to move to the Emirates Stadium.

Gordon to Arsenal

The Newcastle star is valued at around £52m by Transfermarkt and still has a contract until 2030. So, the Tyneside club are expected to demand a huge fee to let him leave.

Gordon is a left-winger by trait but has played as a centre-forward on numerous occasions this season. He has proven his worth in the Premier League in recent years and has established himself as a key player in Thomas Tuchel’s England national team.

Arsenal currently have Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard as options to deploy on the left flank. But neither of them has managed to showcase their best consistently enough in recent years.

So, Arteta’s side could do with reinforcing the left flank, and Gordon would be a great coup should they eventually manage to lure him to the English capital in the upcoming summer transfer window.
