Arsenal will hope to return to the top of the Premier League table by beating Newcastle United on Saturday.
The Gunners had topped the top flight table for 209 days before Wednesday, when Manchester City defeated Burnley to leapfrog Mikel Arteta’s side into first place, having beaten the north London outfit 2-1 on Sunday.
Arteta will be desperate to seize the opportunity to return to the summit, with Manchester City in FA Cup action and therefore not playing in the league until May 4.
Ahead of their game against Newcastle, it has emerged that Arsenal have begun exploring a possible move for a La Liga superstar.
According to CaughtOffside, Arsenal have been in contact with the representatives of Real Madrid midfielder Arda Guler.
The report claims that the London side have identified the Turkish attacker as a possible target ahead of this summer’s transfer window, although it appears that a move to sign the player could prove tricky.
It is claimed that Arsenal have so far received no indication that Real Madrid would be willing to sell the player this year, while it has also been implied that Guler himself is happy in the Spanish capital at present.
Guler, 21, joined Real Madrid from Turkish giants Fenerbahce in 2023 and has since made 111 appearances across all competitions, scoring 18 goals and providing 25 assists.
The Turkey international is enjoying a particularly impressive campaign this season, registering a combined 20 goals and assists so far.
Guler’s contract with Real is set to run until the end of the 2028/29 season, but Arsenal are said to have been exploring a move for the player amid uncertainty surrounding the future or current Real boss, Alvaro Arbeloa.
Despite this, it could prove tricky for the Gunners to land Guler, who can play in a variety of attacking roles including as a winger on either flank, or as an attacking midfielder.
