Arsenal have made contact with FC Porto over a deal to sign influential midfielder Victor Froholdt, according to The Times.
The Gunners have had a remarkable campaign and are on the brink of making history as they are five points clear at the top of the Premier League table with three games remaining, while they are also in the Champions League final for the first time since 2006, where they’ll face defending champions Paris Saint-Germain.
But Mikel Arteta is still keen to add more to his squad for next season to make them even stronger, and the 20-year-old has emerged as a target.
Arsenal Make Contact for Froholdt
Froholdt, who has been described as ‘the best player in the Portuguese league’, has enjoyed a fine campaign with Porto having won the league in his maiden season, scoring eight goals and registering six assists in the process.
An athletic and energetic midfielder, Froholdt has been identified as someone who could come into the north London side’s midfield and help provide quality and depth for years to come, having shone on the right side of a three-man midfield.
Arsenal have been watching Froholdt closely over the course of the season, but Porto don’t want to sell after signing him last summer and including a £73m release clause in his contract.
However, it is now understood that Porto would be open to a sale for around £52m as they look to balance their books. Arsenal are likely to sell players before purchasing this summer to balance their own squad and books, with a number of players expected to be on the move.

Froholdt is a very talented young footballer, and Arsenal has been the place for those types of players to develop and improve over the years. But right now, Arsenal are in a place where they must keep winning, which could make it difficult to give him the time and space to do that.
