“He changed the entire game immediately after he came in, he deserves all the credit”: Ian Wright names ONE Arsenal’s player who should be given all the credit today after changing the game immediately he was subbed in against West Ham United today

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has heaped massive praise on Martin Ødegaard after the captain’s influential cameo during Arsenal’s important victory over West Ham United, insisting the Norwegian “completely changed the game” the moment he stepped onto the pitch.

The Gunners struggled to find rhythm for large periods of the match at the London Stadium, with West Ham making life difficult through their aggressive pressing and compact defending. Mikel Arteta’s side looked short of creativity in midfield before Ødegaard was introduced in the second half — and according to Wright, everything changed immediately after that substitution.

Speaking after the game, Wright explained how Ødegaard’s composure, movement and passing instantly gave Arsenal more control and confidence.

“The moment Ødegaard came on, the whole game changed,” Wright reportedly said. “Suddenly Arsenal started moving the ball quicker, the players around him became more dangerous, and West Ham began dropping deeper because they were worried about what he could create.”

The former Arsenal striker praised the captain’s intelligence on the ball, saying few midfielders in the Premier League can dictate the tempo of a game the way Ødegaard does when he is fully fit and confident.

“Martin Ødegaard sees passes before anyone else,” Wright added. “He makes football look simple because his awareness is unbelievable. Arsenal looked like a different team after he came on.”

Ødegaard’s introduction helped Arsenal dominate possession during the closing stages as the North London side searched for a breakthrough. The Norwegian international repeatedly linked up with Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard, creating dangerous moments that eventually led to the winning goal.

Fans inside the stadium immediately noticed the difference as Arsenal began playing with more urgency and fluidity. Social media was flooded with praise for the captain after the final whistle, with many supporters describing him as the “heartbeat” of Mikel Arteta’s side.

The performance once again highlighted just how important Ødegaard has become to Arsenal’s title ambitions this season. While the team possesses plenty of attacking talent, many believe the captain remains the player who brings everything together in the final third.

Mikel Arteta also praised Ødegaard’s impact after the game, admitting the midfielder brought calmness and leadership during a tense moment in the match.

“He gives us control, energy and personality,” Arteta reportedly said. “Martin understands exactly what the team needs in different situations.”

Arsenal’s victory over West Ham was another massive step in their Premier League title challenge and continued their incredible recent form. With the UEFA Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain also approaching, supporters will be hoping their captain remains fit and influential during the most important weeks of the season.

For Ian Wright, however, there is no debate about Ødegaard’s importance to the team.

“When your captain comes on and instantly lifts everyone around him, that tells you everything,” Wright said. “That’s what top players do. Martin Ødegaard changed the game.”
