José Mourinho believes Arsenal could become one of the most feared teams in world football if they manage to sign Kylian Mbappé next season.
The former Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester United manager reportedly praised the progress Mikel Arteta has made at the Emirates Stadium and suggested that adding a player of Mbappé’s quality would take the Gunners to an entirely different level.
According to Mourinho, Arsenal already possess the perfect balance between youth, intensity, technical quality and defensive solidity. With players like Bukayo Saka, Martin Ødegaard, Declan Rice and William Saliba forming the spine of the squad, the Portuguese coach believes the North London club are already close to dominating both English and European football.
Mourinho is said to have described Arsenal as “almost complete,” insisting that the only thing missing is a truly unstoppable superstar in attack — and in his view, Mbappé is the perfect player to fill that role.
The French superstar has long been linked with a move away from Paris, with Europe’s biggest clubs constantly monitoring his situation. While clubs such as Real Madrid remain heavily connected with the World Cup winner, Mourinho believes Arsenal’s current project could actually suit Mbappé better than any other destination.
Speaking about Arsenal’s style of play, Mourinho reportedly admired how Arteta has transformed the club into one of the most aggressive attacking sides in Europe while still maintaining defensive discipline. He believes Mbappé’s pace, movement and finishing ability would make Arsenal “unplayable” because opponents would struggle to contain the variety already present in the team.
Mourinho reportedly pointed to Arsenal’s fluid front line as one of their biggest strengths. With Saka causing problems from the right wing and Gabriel Martinelli stretching defences on the opposite side, Mbappé operating centrally or from the left would create nightmares for defenders.
The former Porto and Inter Milan boss also praised Arsenal’s midfield setup. He believes Ødegaard’s creativity combined with Rice’s physical presence would allow Mbappé the freedom to focus entirely on attacking. Mourinho reportedly claimed that very few teams in Europe would be capable of coping with Arsenal in transition if Mbappé joined the squad.
One area Mourinho especially highlighted was Arsenal’s growing maturity in big matches. In previous years, critics questioned whether the Gunners had enough experience to compete consistently for major trophies. However, Arteta’s side has shown enormous improvement in handling pressure situations both in the Premier League and in Europe.
Mourinho reportedly believes adding a serial winner like Mbappé would elevate the mentality inside the dressing room even further. The French forward has already won domestic titles, a World Cup and numerous individual awards despite still being in the prime years of his career.
The Portuguese manager also suggested that Mbappé’s arrival would massively increase Arsenal’s global status. Arsenal are already one of the biggest clubs in the world, but signing arguably the biggest football superstar of this generation would completely transform the club commercially and competitively.
Fans have reacted excitedly to Mourinho’s comments on social media, with many supporters dreaming about what Arsenal’s attack could look like next season. Some supporters even compared the potential front line to some of the greatest attacking trios football has ever seen.
Although any deal for Mbappé would likely be extremely complicated financially, Mourinho reportedly insisted that top clubs must think boldly if they want to dominate modern football. He believes Arsenal are now at the stage where they should target the very best players available instead of simply building for the future.
Arteta himself has repeatedly spoken about wanting Arsenal to compete with Europe’s elite every single season. After rebuilding the squad over several years, the Spanish manager now appears closer than ever to achieving that ambition.
Mourinho’s comments will undoubtedly excite Arsenal fans, especially because praise from the legendary manager does not come easily. Throughout his career, Mourinho has often been brutally honest in his assessments of clubs and players, making his admiration for Arsenal’s current project even more significant.
For now, Mbappé’s future remains uncertain, but one thing is clear — the idea of him wearing Arsenal colours has already captured the imagination of football fans across the world. And if Mourinho is correct, Arsenal with Mbappé could become one of the most unstoppable forces European football has seen in years.
