Fortaleza CEIF midfielder Cristian Orozco is scheduled to travel to Manchester on Sunday before undergoing his medical with Manchester United, according to journalist Pipe Sierra.
The Red Devils secured a verbal agreement to sign the 17-year-old last summer. Fortaleza accepted a £750,000 package for the Colombian, who is primarily a holding midfielder.
Sierra has now revealed that Orozco will be travelling to Manchester tomorrow alongside Giuseppe Antonaccio, who is the Chief Scout for the Red Devils in South America.
He will undergo his medical before signing his contract. Orozco will be eligible to do so when he turns 18 on July 13. The midfielder will then join the Under-21s for pre-season in Germany.
Orozco looks like a promising midfield prospect
United secured a verbal deal for Orozco before he made his senior debut for Fortaleza. His performances for Colombia at the Under-17 South American Championship grabbed the attention of the Red Devils.
Orozco has since made his debut for Fortaleza, registering five appearances to date. The youngster has averaged only 33 minutes per outing, but has caught the eye with several of his attributes.
He has been solid with his distribution, with an accuracy of 91 percent, while winning 60 percent of his duels. He has also impressed with his ball control from the heart of the midfield.
It is still too early to judge Orozco’s potential, but he looks like a promising prospect. The teenager will likely spend the whole of next season with the Under-21s, adapting to the playing style.
Talking about midfielders, United have already secured a verbal agreement to land Atalanta star Ederson to reinforce the first-team squad, but he is currently with Brazil at the World Cup.
Ederson was brought in as a late replacement for the injured Wesley, and the 26-year-old will undergo his medical tests only after the Selecao’s World Cup campaign formally concludes.
