“If they sign him, I will be scared of facing them in the Champions League next season”: Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho reveals the player Arsenal has reached personal terms to sign will make them unplayable next season

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly admitted that Arsenal would become one of the most dangerous teams in Europe if they completed the signing of Brazilian midfield star Bruno Guimarães this summer.

Speaking in a fictional interview ahead of the new campaign, Mourinho praised Arsenal’s rapid development under Mikel Arteta and suggested that adding Guimarães would elevate the North London club into genuine favourites for every major trophy.

“If Arsenal sign Bruno Guimarães, they become a completely different animal,” Mourinho reportedly said. “They already have quality across the pitch, but Bruno gives them leadership, control, aggression and personality in midfield. He is the kind of player every coach wants.”

The Portuguese coach continued by admitting that, if given the choice, he would prefer not to face Arsenal in next season’s Champions League.

“Honestly, if I could choose one team to avoid, it would be Arsenal with Bruno Guimarães in their squad. They would have everything—pace, creativity, defensive balance and experience. Over two legs they would be extremely difficult to eliminate.”

Mourinho highlighted Guimarães’ ability to dictate matches from midfield, describing the Brazilian as one of the finest all-round midfielders in world football.

“He can defend, attack, press, recover possession and control the tempo. Players like him make everyone around them better. He would fit Arsenal perfectly.”

The comments are expected to excite Arsenal supporters, who have long hoped to see the Newcastle United captain arrive at the Emirates Stadium. Guimarães has consistently been linked with Europe’s biggest clubs thanks to his outstanding performances in the Premier League and for Brazil.

Should Arsenal complete the transfer, Arteta could boast one of the strongest midfields in Europe, combining Guimarães with Declan Rice and Martin Ødegaard. Many pundits believe such a trio would give Arsenal the balance needed to compete with Europe’s elite.

Mourinho also praised Arsenal’s progress over the last few seasons, insisting they have developed into a mature and disciplined side capable of challenging any opponent.

“They are no longer just a team with potential. They know how to win big matches, they defend well, they control possession and they have a winning mentality. Add Bruno Guimarães to that and they become even more complete.”

The possibility of a Champions League showdown between Real Madrid and Arsenal would undoubtedly capture the imagination of football fans worldwide. With Mourinho renowned for his tactical brilliance and Arsenal playing some of Europe’s most exciting football, such a clash would be one of the standout ties of the competition.

For now, Arsenal supporters can only wait to see whether the club can secure Guimarães’ signature. If they do, Mourinho’s fictional warning suggests that Europe’s biggest clubs—including Real Madrid—would have every reason to respect the Gunners as serious contenders for continental glory.
