Paris Saint-Germain are on the verge of landing one of English football’s hottest prospects, with 17-year-old Liverpool winger Rio Ngumoha arriving in the French capital on Monday to undergo his medical ahead of a proposed transfer.
Sources close to the deal tell us Ngumoha was pictured arriving at PSG’s training ground at Campus PSG this morning, accompanied by his representatives, for routine medical and fitness tests. If all goes to plan, he will sign a long-term contract and become PSG’s first major youth signing of the summer window.
From Anfield Breakthrough to Paris Project
Ngumoha burst onto the scene last season under Arne Slot, making 29 appearances for Liverpool and scoring his first senior goal against Fulham. The 17-year-old was praised for his fearlessness on the left wing, direct dribbling, and composure beyond his years.
He even started Liverpool’s Champions League last-16 tie vs PSG back in April, a game where Slot said he had “no qualms” about trusting the teenager on the biggest stage. Ironically, that performance appears to have convinced PSG of his quality.
PSG sporting director Luis Campos has been tracking Ngumoha for months. With Kylian Mbappe gone and the club pivoting toward younger, high-ceiling talent, Ngumoha fits the new profile: Premier League-tested, two-footed, and eligible to represent France through his mother from Guadeloupe.
Why PSG Moved Now
The Paris club have been looking for long-term depth on the left. With Bradley Barcola attracting interest from Liverpool and Ousmane Dembele now 29, PSG see Ngumoha as both a present option and a future star.
The deal is understood to be worth an initial €45m plus add-ons, with Liverpool negotiating a significant sell-on clause and buy-back option. Liverpool were reluctant to sell, but the chance for Ngumoha to get first-team minutes in Ligue 1 and Champions League football was a key factor in the player’s decision.
Bayern Munich were also exploring a move, but PSG moved faster and offered a clearer pathway.
What Happens Next
Ngumoha is expected to complete the second part of his medical on Tuesday before signing a 5-year deal. He will then be presented at the Parc des Princes later this week.
PSG head coach Luis Enrique is believed to be “very excited” about working with him. The plan is for Ngumoha to rotate with Barcola and Dembele initially, with a view to becoming a starter by 2027.
For Liverpool, it’s a painful but pragmatic sale. The Reds are short in attack after Mohamed Salah’s departure, but the fee gives them room to pursue their own targets.
