Posted on July 22, 2026 by admin

Liverpool have been handed a minor concern during their pre-season preparations after highly-rated teenager Rio Ngumoha sustained a small injury during a training session with the first team.

The 17-year-old winger, who has been one of the standout young talents at the AXA Training Centre, reportedly picked up a slight knock while taking part in an intense training drill. Fortunately for Liverpool, early indications suggest the injury is not serious and is being treated as a precautionary setback rather than a long-term concern.

Ngumoha has attracted plenty of attention since breaking into the senior setup, with his pace, technical ability and fearless attacking style earning praise from coaches and supporters alike. After impressing throughout the academy ranks, the youngster was hoping to use Liverpool’s pre-season schedule to further stake his claim for regular first-team opportunities ahead of the new campaign.

Medical staff assessed the winger immediately after the incident, and the decision was made to withdraw him from the remainder of the training session. Sources close to the club believe the injury is only minor, with no signs of significant damage, although Liverpool’s medical team will continue monitoring his recovery over the coming days.

The timing is unfortunate for Ngumoha, who has been enjoying an excellent pre-season and was determined to catch the eye of the coaching staff. His performances in training had reportedly impressed teammates and coaches, reinforcing the belief that he has a bright future at Anfield.

Despite the setback, there is optimism that the young forward will return to action soon. Liverpool are unwilling to take any unnecessary risks with one of their brightest academy prospects, especially during pre-season, where player fitness and long-term development remain the priority.

The coaching staff are expected to manage his workload carefully once he resumes training, ensuring he is fully fit before being considered for upcoming friendly matches. With a long season ahead, the club believes patience is the best approach to avoid aggravating what appears to be only a minor issue.

Supporters will undoubtedly be relieved to hear that the injury is not thought to be serious. Ngumoha has quickly become a fan favourite thanks to his exciting style of play and enormous potential, with many believing he could become an important player for Liverpool in the years to come.

Although missing a few training sessions would be disappointing for the teenager, the expectation is that he will make a swift recovery and continue his development alongside Liverpool’s senior stars. The Reds remain confident that this small setback will have little impact on his progress as he continues to establish himself as one of the club’s most exciting young talents.

Liverpool are expected to provide further updates should they become necessary, but for now, the early signs point towards a brief spell on the sidelines before Ngumoha returns to full training.
