Liverpool wonderkid Rio Ngumoha has expressed his admiration for teammate Hugo Ekitike, describing the French striker as one of the best forwards he has ever played alongside and revealing how much he enjoys linking up with him on the pitch.
The highly-rated teenager believes Ekitike’s movement, intelligence and finishing ability make life much easier for creative players, and he is looking forward to building an even stronger partnership as Liverpool prepare for the new campaign.
Speaking about the growing understanding between them, Ngumoha said that Ekitike’s style perfectly complements his own game.
“I love playing alongside Hugo Ekitike,” Ngumoha said. “He’s always moving, always creating space, and he gives wingers confidence because you know he’ll be in the right position. It’s exciting to play with a striker who understands the game so well.”
The young winger explained that Ekitike constantly communicates during matches and training, helping younger players improve while also encouraging them to express themselves on the ball.
“He’s always talking to me during games. He tells me when to cross, when to drive inside and when to take defenders on. That kind of communication helps a young player like me improve every day.”
Ngumoha also praised the French forward’s calmness in front of goal, saying it motivates the entire squad to create more chances.
“When Hugo gets opportunities, you always believe he can score. As a winger, that gives you confidence because every cross or pass feels like it can become an assist.”
The Liverpool academy graduate believes the understanding between the pair has continued to grow throughout training sessions and pre-season preparations.
“We’re learning each other’s movements every day. The more we train together, the better our chemistry becomes. I think supporters will enjoy watching us play together.”
Ngumoha added that Ekitike has been welcoming since his arrival and has treated younger players with respect.
“Hugo is a great teammate. Even though he’s an established player, he encourages everyone and makes young players feel comfortable. That says a lot about his character.”
The teenager admitted that Liverpool’s attack has enormous potential, with several exciting young and experienced players competing for places.
“We have so much quality in the squad. Healthy competition pushes everyone to improve, and that’s exactly what a top club like Liverpool needs.”
Ngumoha believes Liverpool can produce one of the most entertaining attacks in the Premier League if the players continue developing their understanding.
“We have pace, creativity and goals in the team. If we keep working hard, we can become a very dangerous attacking unit.”
Supporters have already begun to notice the promising connection between the winger and the striker, with both players showing flashes of excellent combination play whenever they share the pitch.
Ekitike’s intelligent movement inside the penalty area and Ngumoha’s willingness to take on defenders and deliver dangerous crosses appear to be a natural fit, raising hopes that the duo could become a key part of Liverpool’s attack in the seasons ahead.
As Liverpool continue preparing for another demanding campaign, fans will be hoping the partnership between Rio Ngumoha and Hugo Ekitike develops into one of the club’s most exciting attacking combinations, helping the Reds compete for major honours while showcasing the next generation of talent at Anfield.
