Alexander Isak Admits Hugo Ekitike Had a Better Season Than Him Last Season.

Liverpool striker Alexander Isak has shown remarkable humility by admitting that teammate Hugo Ekitike enjoyed a better campaign than he did last season, praising the French forward for his consistency, goalscoring ability, and overall contribution to the team’s attack.

Speaking during Liverpool’s pre-season preparations, Isak acknowledged that Ekitike deserved the recognition he received after emerging as one of the club’s standout performers throughout a difficult campaign.

“I have no problem saying Hugo had a better season than me,” Isak reportedly said. “He was outstanding from the first game to the last. He scored important goals, worked incredibly hard for the team, and showed why he’s one of the best young strikers in Europe.”

The Swedish international’s comments have been widely praised by fans, with many highlighting the respect and healthy competition developing between Liverpool’s two elite forwards.

Ekitike’s impressive performances made him one of the brightest lights in an otherwise inconsistent Liverpool season. His movement, technical quality, pace, and clinical finishing allowed him to establish himself as the Reds’ leading attacking threat, delivering crucial goals in both the Premier League and European competitions.

Despite arriving with huge expectations, Isak admitted that injuries and inconsistency prevented him from reaching his own high standards. Rather than making excuses, however, he insisted that Ekitike fully deserved the praise he has received.

“There were moments where I wasn’t at my best,” Isak continued. “Football is about honesty. Hugo performed at an exceptional level, and I respect him for that. When your teammate succeeds, you celebrate it because his success helps the entire club.”

The striker also revealed that he learned a great deal from watching Ekitike’s performances throughout the campaign.

“He never stopped working. Even when things weren’t going perfectly for the team, he kept pressing defenders, making runs, and creating chances. That’s the mentality every striker should have.”

Liverpool supporters have been encouraged by the growing partnership between the two forwards. Rather than seeing each other as rivals, Isak and Ekitike have consistently spoken about pushing one another to improve, creating healthy competition that could benefit the Reds throughout the new season.

Football analysts believe Liverpool now possess one of the strongest attacking units in Europe. While both players possess different qualities, they complement each other remarkably well. Isak’s intelligent movement and composure in front of goal combine perfectly with Ekitike’s athleticism, link-up play, and relentless pressing.

Last season, Ekitike finished as Liverpool’s leading scorer, underlining his importance to the team during a challenging campaign.

Isak believes the competition between them will only make Liverpool stronger.

“We push each other every day in training. If Hugo scores, I want to score. If I score, he wants to score. That’s healthy because we’re both fighting for Liverpool, not against each other.”

The Sweden international also dismissed suggestions that there is any tension between the pair.

“People always want to create competition in a negative way, but that’s not how it is. We have a great relationship. We talk every day, help each other, and celebrate each other’s success.”

Liverpool’s coaching staff are reportedly delighted with the professionalism both forwards have displayed during pre-season. The atmosphere within the squad has improved significantly, with senior players praising the positive influence of both strikers.

As Liverpool prepare for a new campaign under renewed expectations, many supporters believe the partnership between Isak and Ekitike could become one of the Premier League’s most dangerous attacking combinations.

For Ekitike, receiving public praise from a striker of Isak’s calibre is another indication of the respect he has earned through his performances. Meanwhile, Isak’s honesty has further enhanced his reputation as a team-first player who values collective success above individual recognition.

With both forwards determined to improve on last season and compete for major trophies, Liverpool fans will hope their mutual respect translates into goals, victories, and a return to challenging for the biggest honours in English and European football.
