Liverpool wonderkid Rio Ngumoha has heaped praise on new head coach Andoni Iraola, describing the Spaniard as a “top coach” and insisting he is the perfect man to lead the Reds into a new era.
The highly-rated teenager has been one of Liverpool’s brightest young talents and is expected to play a much bigger role under Iraola during the 2026/27 campaign. Speaking about the club’s new manager, Ngumoha highlighted the positive atmosphere around the squad and explained why he believes Iraola’s coaching philosophy is exactly what Liverpool need.
“He’s a top coach,” Ngumoha reportedly said. “The way he works with the players every day, the intensity he demands and the confidence he gives everyone is incredible. I think he’s the perfect manager for Liverpool.”
The young winger added that the players have quickly adapted to Iraola’s methods during pre-season, with training sessions becoming faster, more demanding and tactically detailed. According to Ngumoha, every member of the squad has embraced the challenge.
“Every training session pushes us to improve. He wants us to press aggressively, attack with confidence and play without fear. That’s what Liverpool supporters love to see, and I think everyone can already see his ideas coming together.”
Iraola arrived at Anfield after establishing himself as one of Europe’s most highly regarded young coaches. His energetic, high-pressing style of football and commitment to attacking play have earned widespread praise, with many believing his tactical approach is perfectly suited to Liverpool’s identity.
Ngumoha believes those qualities make Iraola an ideal fit for the club’s traditions.
“Liverpool has always been about intensity, passion and attacking football. That’s exactly how the manager wants us to play. He’s demanding because he wants the best from every player, and I think that’s what will make this team successful.”
The teenager also praised Iraola’s willingness to trust young players. Since arriving at Liverpool, the Spanish coach has repeatedly spoken about creating opportunities for academy graduates who prove they are ready for first-team football. Reports suggest Ngumoha remains firmly in Iraola’s plans after impressing during pre-season.
That faith has given Ngumoha extra motivation to continue developing.
“As a young player, having a manager who believes in you means everything. He gives you confidence but also expects you to work hard every single day. That’s how you improve.”
Ngumoha admitted that competition for places at Liverpool remains fierce, but believes the environment created by Iraola is helping every player become better.
“We have so many quality players, but the competition is healthy. Everyone wants to improve and help the team. The manager has made it clear that if you perform well, you’ll get your chance.”
Liverpool supporters have been excited by the combination of experienced stars and emerging academy talents, and Ngumoha believes the squad has everything needed to compete for major honours this season.
“The atmosphere around the club is fantastic. Everyone believes in what the manager is building. We know it won’t happen overnight, but we’re working towards something special.”
The winger also praised Iraola’s communication skills, saying the Spaniard ensures every player understands their role.
“He explains everything clearly. Whether you’re an experienced player or someone from the academy, he treats everyone with respect. That creates confidence throughout the squad.”
Iraola has consistently emphasised teamwork, humility and collective effort since taking charge at Liverpool, principles that align closely with the club’s traditions and long-term vision.
Ngumoha concluded by expressing his excitement for the future.
“I’m learning every day from the manager and my teammates. I want to keep improving, score goals, create chances and help Liverpool win trophies. With Andoni Iraola leading us, I believe we can achieve great things.”
As Liverpool prepare for the new campaign, supporters will hope Ngumoha’s confidence in his manager proves well-founded. If Iraola can successfully implement his high-energy tactical philosophy while continuing to develop exciting young talents like Ngumoha, the Reds could be entering an exciting new chapter under a coach many already believe is perfectly suited to Anfield.
