BREAKING: Vincent Kompany admits Michael Olise wants to join…see more

Posted on August 18, 2026 by admin

Vincent Kompany has reportedly opened the door to a potential future move for Michael Olise, with Manchester United once again being linked with the Bayern Munich winger.

The French international has developed into one of the most exciting attacking players in European football since leaving Crystal Palace for Bayern Munich in 2024, and his performances have naturally continued to attract attention from some of the biggest clubs in the world. Manchester United are among the clubs frequently mentioned in connection with the player, particularly because of their desire to build a stronger and more dangerous attacking unit around their long-term project. Olise was previously of serious interest to Manchester United before choosing Bayern, making any future return to the Premier League an especially intriguing possibility.

Kompany has been one of Olise’s biggest admirers since taking charge at Bayern, and his comments about the winger’s development have only increased the excitement surrounding his future. The Belgian coach has described Olise as a player with the mentality and attention to detail required to reach the very highest level, even comparing aspects of his mentality to that of Kevin De Bruyne. Kompany has stressed that Olise is still developing and that there is more to come from him, but he has also made it clear that the winger possesses qualities that can eventually make him one of the world’s elite players.

That assessment is important because Manchester United have been searching for exactly this type of player. The club wants attackers capable of creating chances independently, beating defenders one against one, producing goals and assists, and performing consistently under enormous pressure. Olise possesses many of those qualities. His ability to operate from the right side, cut inside, deliver dangerous crosses, combine with teammates and create opportunities from seemingly impossible situations makes him an attractive profile for any Premier League giant.

The possibility of Olise eventually joining Manchester United would also represent an interesting chapter in a transfer story that began before his move to Germany. United were among the clubs interested in Olise during his Crystal Palace days, but the winger ultimately decided that Bayern Munich offered the right environment for his development. He completed his move to the German giants in the summer of 2024, signing a five-year contract that was reported to run until June 2029.

At the time, Olise’s decision was viewed as a major statement about his ambitions. Bayern provided him with the opportunity to compete for major domestic and European honours while working under a coach who clearly believed in his ability. Since then, the winger has continued to establish himself as an important member of the Bayern squad. The club’s current first-team squad still lists Olise among its forwards, while Kompany remains the team’s head coach.

However, football transfers rarely follow a straight line. A player can be completely committed to one club today and still find himself considering another challenge several years later. This is particularly true when a Premier League giant such as Manchester United becomes involved. United’s global profile, financial power and history could make a future approach difficult for any player to ignore, especially if the club continues rebuilding and begins competing regularly for major trophies again.

For Manchester United supporters, Olise would represent a statement signing rather than simply another addition to the squad. His arrival would immediately increase the technical quality of the attack and give the team another player capable of deciding matches through individual brilliance. United have spent recent seasons searching for greater consistency in the final third, and a player with Olise’s creativity could provide an important solution.

His relationship with the ball is one of his biggest strengths. Olise is comfortable receiving possession in tight spaces, slowing the game down before suddenly accelerating, and using his left foot to deliver dangerous passes or shots. He can create opportunities for teammates while also becoming a direct goalscoring threat himself. These characteristics would make him particularly attractive to a Manchester United side looking to dominate possession while still maintaining the ability to attack quickly.

Kompany’s praise is therefore significant because it underlines just how highly Bayern value the player. The Bayern coach has previously explained that Olise’s development is not simply the result of coaching but also the consequence of the player’s own mentality and dedication. Kompany pointed to Olise’s attention to detail and his obsession with improving as qualities reminiscent of what he saw in De Bruyne during the Belgian midfielder’s rise to global stardom.

That kind of mentality is precisely what Manchester United would want from a major signing. The club cannot afford to recruit players solely because of their reputation. Any future superstar arriving at Old Trafford would have to possess the mentality to deal with the enormous expectations surrounding the shirt. Olise’s development at Bayern suggests that he has already learned how to handle pressure at the highest level.

His Champions League performances have provided further evidence of his ability. Olise played an important role in Bayern’s European campaign, producing goals and assists against some of the strongest teams in the competition. His performances were so impressive that analysts began discussing him as one of the club’s most important attacking players.

This is also why Bayern would have little reason to voluntarily sell him. The German giants view Olise as part of their long-term project, and reports have indicated that the club has resisted suggestions that he could be sold. One recent report claimed Bayern’s position was that Olise was not for sale despite reported interest from Liverpool and speculation about a huge potential fee.

Consequently, Manchester United would face a difficult negotiation if they eventually decided to pursue the winger. Bayern would have little incentive to accept a modest offer for one of their most valuable attacking players, particularly when Olise still has years remaining on his contract. Any proposal would likely need to be enormous enough to convince Bayern that losing the player made financial sense.

There is also the question of timing. Manchester United may not need to make an immediate move for Olise. The club’s recruitment strategy could evolve over the next several transfer windows, and other positions may take priority. A defensive midfielder, centre-back, goalkeeper or striker could become more important depending on the development of the squad. Nevertheless, Olise could remain a long-term target because elite attacking players are difficult to find.

The prospect of Olise playing at Old Trafford would also have enormous appeal to supporters. Manchester United have historically been associated with attacking football and technically gifted wide players. From George Best to Ryan Giggs and Cristiano Ronaldo, the club has always had a special relationship with wingers capable of entertaining supporters and changing games. Olise would fit naturally into that tradition because of his creativity, flair and ability to produce decisive moments.

There is another factor that could make a future move possible: Olise’s connection with English football. Although he represents France internationally, he developed his senior reputation in England with Crystal Palace. He understands the Premier League, has already demonstrated his quality in the competition and would not need a lengthy adaptation period if he returned. That could make him an attractive option compared with signing an attacker from a completely different league.

For Manchester United, such a signing could also send a powerful message to their rivals. Bringing Olise back to England would demonstrate that the club is capable of attracting established European stars rather than merely developing young prospects. If United return to regular Champions League football and compete for trophies, their ability to sign players of Olise’s calibre could become significantly stronger.

Kompany, meanwhile, appears to understand the enormous potential of the player. His previous comments suggest that he does not believe Olise has reached his ceiling. Instead, the Bayern manager sees him as a player who can continue improving and potentially reach the very highest level. That could be both good news and bad news for Manchester United. The longer Olise remains at Bayern and continues improving, the more expensive and difficult he could become to sign.

There is also the possibility that Olise could eventually decide that he wants another challenge. Bayern remains one of Europe’s biggest clubs, but footballers sometimes seek different experiences after achieving certain objectives. A return to the Premier League, particularly with a club of Manchester United’s stature, could become attractive if the circumstances are right.

For now, however, there is no confirmed indication that Olise is on the verge of joining Manchester United. The available evidence points more toward Bayern considering him an important part of their squad than actively preparing to sell him. Bayern’s current official squad information continues to list Olise, while recent reporting has highlighted the club’s desire to retain him.

Nevertheless, football supporters know that transfer situations can change rapidly. A player’s ambitions, a club’s financial position, managerial changes, contract developments and major offers can all alter the picture. Manchester United therefore cannot be completely ruled out if they decide to make Olise one of their priorities in a future transfer window.

The most interesting part of the story is that Olise was already on Manchester United’s radar before he joined Bayern. United had an opportunity to sign him in the past but ultimately missed out, with the player choosing the Bundesliga giants instead. If he eventually returns to England and signs for United, it would be a remarkable example of a transfer target finally arriving at Old Trafford after years of interest.

Kompany’s admiration for Olise could also be interpreted as evidence of just how valuable the winger has become. The Bayern manager has not suggested that the player is currently heading for Manchester United, but his glowing assessment reinforces the idea that Olise belongs in conversations about Europe’s elite attacking talents. If he continues along his current trajectory, his market value and reputation are likely to rise even further.

For Manchester United, the message is simple: if the club genuinely wants Olise, it may need to prepare for a long-term pursuit rather than expecting a quick deal. Bayern will not make life easy for any potential suitor, and Olise’s importance to the German club means that a huge offer could be required before negotiations even become serious.

Ultimately, the idea of Michael Olise joining Manchester United sooner or later remains a fascinating possibility rather than an established transfer fact. Kompany’s comments about the winger’s extraordinary qualities have added fuel to the discussion, but there is currently no confirmed agreement between United, Bayern and the player. What is certain is that Olise has developed into the type of player Manchester United would naturally be interested in, and if the club’s rebuilding project continues to gather momentum, a future approach cannot be completely dismissed.

Should United eventually return with a serious proposal, the circumstances could be very different from those of 2024. Olise would no longer be a promising Premier League winger looking for his next step. He would be an established European star who has proven himself at Bayern and in the Champions League. Manchester United would therefore have to convince both the player and Bayern that Old Trafford is the right destination.

And if United can return to the top of English football, secure Champions League football and build a squad capable of challenging for major trophies, Olise could eventually see a move to Manchester as an opportunity rather than a gamble. For now, Bayern remain in control of his future, but the possibility of Manchester United reigniting their interest sooner or later is one that could continue to generate headlines for years to come.
