Manchester City are reportedly considering the possibility of signing Dani Carvajal after the experienced Spanish defender was offered to the Premier League champions as a free agent.
The move would represent one of the most intriguing late opportunities in the transfer market, with Carvajal still searching for his next club after ending his long and hugely successful spell at Real Madrid. According to reports, intermediaries have presented the 34-year-old to Manchester City, although there is currently no indication that a deal has been agreed or that City have made a formal commitment to signing him.
Carvajal is available without a transfer fee after leaving Real Madrid following 13 remarkable years at the Santiago Bernabéu. During that period, he established himself as one of the finest right-backs of his generation, winning numerous major trophies and playing a central role in Madrid’s dominance in European football. He leaves the Spanish giants with six Champions League titles among his collection of honours, as well as four La Liga titles and a long list of domestic and international successes.
For Manchester City, the appeal would not simply be about adding another defender to the squad. Carvajal could bring something that is particularly valuable in a squad containing several younger players: experience at the very highest level. The Spanish international has spent his career competing in pressure-filled Champions League knockout matches, title races and major international tournaments, and his leadership could potentially be useful inside a changing Manchester City dressing room.
City have already undergone significant changes to their squad, spending heavily during the summer transfer window as they attempt to build another team capable of challenging for every major trophy. Their current season has started perfectly in terms of results, with the club winning their opening three Premier League matches under new manager Enzo Maresca.
