ARTETA SPEAKS AFTER ARSENAL’S 3–0 DEFEAT: “THEY DESERVED TO WIN”
Mikel Arteta has admitted that Brighton deserved their 3–0 victory over Arsenal, as the Gunners suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season at the Amex Stadium.
Arsenal had entered the match in excellent form, having won their opening four Premier League games and all seven of their matches in all competitions this season. However, Brighton produced a strong performance and punished Arsenal’s mistakes throughout the game.
Pascal Groß opened the scoring before Charalampos Kostoulas doubled Brighton’s advantage shortly before half-time. Chema Andrés then headed in a third goal early in the second half to complete a convincing victory for the home side.
Arteta did not look for excuses after the final whistle. The Arsenal manager acknowledged that his players were second best and said the result should serve as a “big lesson” for the team.
The manager particularly highlighted the way Arsenal repeatedly put themselves in difficult situations and failed to recover quickly enough. He also stressed the importance of winning individual battles and respecting the demands of Premier League football.
Despite the disappointing result, Arteta pointed out that the defeat does not erase what his players achieved during the opening weeks of the campaign. Arsenal had made a perfect start before Brighton ended their winning run.
The international break now gives Arsenal time to reflect, recover and prepare for their next Premier League challenge against Leeds.
