PEP GUARDIOLA REACTION? ARTETA SET TO STAY AT ARSENAL BEYOND THIS SEASON
Mikel Arteta’s future at Arsenal has taken a major turn after reports emerged that the Spanish manager has agreed a new and improved contract with the Premier League champions.
According to the BBC, as reported by Reuters, Arteta’s previous deal was due to expire at the end of the current season, but negotiations over an extension had been ongoing for several months.
The development is significant for Arsenal after Arteta guided the club to their first Premier League title in 22 years last season.
Arsenal had finished as runners-up in the previous three campaigns before finally ending their long wait for the championship under Arteta.
Pep Guardiola and Arteta have a long-standing relationship, with Arteta previously working as Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City.
However, there is no verified current statement from Guardiola saying that Arteta “cannot leave” Arsenal this season.
Guardiola has previously spoken positively about Arteta and Arsenal during their title battles, but any claim that he has now made such a statement should be treated as unverified unless supported by a reliable source.
Arteta’s new agreement also comes after Arsenal began their title defence strongly before suffering a 3–0 defeat to Brighton.
