BREAKING: The Glazers have announced Man United is now up for….see more

Posted on October 25, 2026 by admin

Manchester United could be heading towards another major ownership shake-up, with reports revealing that members of the Glazer family are considering selling some or all of their remaining shares in the Premier League giants.

The development has reignited hopes among supporters who have spent years demanding a complete change of ownership at Old Trafford.

According to a report published by Bloomberg in June 2026, several members of the Glazer family have been discussing the possibility of selling part or all of their holdings in Manchester United. The discussions reportedly began with individual family members exploring their options before efforts were made to persuade others to consider a broader sale. However, the family has not reached a collective decision, and some members reportedly remain opposed to leaving the club.

The news has attracted considerable attention because Manchester United remains one of the most valuable and recognisable football clubs in the world. Any decision by the Glazers to sell their controlling stake could reshape the club’s future, potentially bringing new investment, a different ownership structure and renewed expectations about how the club should be managed.

For millions of Manchester United supporters, the possibility of the American family finally stepping away would represent a significant moment after more than two decades of controversy surrounding their ownership.

The Glazers took control of Manchester United in 2005 through a leveraged buyout that placed substantial debt on the club. Although the team continued winning major trophies during the final years of Sir Alex Ferguson’s management, the ownership structure remained a source of frustration for many supporters.

Following Ferguson’s retirement in 2013, Manchester United struggled to maintain their former dominance of English football. The club appointed several managers, spent enormous sums on players and experienced repeated disappointments in its attempts to return to the top of the Premier League.

While United have continued winning some major trophies during the post-Ferguson era, their inability to establish sustained domestic dominance has intensified criticism of the club’s leadership.

Supporters have repeatedly argued that Manchester United needs an ownership structure capable of prioritising long-term sporting success, investing in infrastructure and making better decisions about recruitment and football operations.

The latest reports have therefore reopened a debate that has followed the club for years: could Manchester United finally move beyond the Glazer era?

The situation became more complicated when British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe acquired a minority stake in the club through INEOS in 2024. His investment gave him control of football operations, while the Glazer family retained majority ownership and significant voting power.

The arrangement was initially viewed by some supporters as a potential first step towards a more substantial change at Old Trafford. However, it did not represent a complete takeover, and the Glazers remained central to the club’s ownership structure.

Now, renewed discussions about selling their shares have created fresh uncertainty about what might happen next.

One of the biggest questions concerns whether the Glazers would prefer to sell individual stakes or pursue a transaction involving the entire club.

Selling some shares could allow individual family members to realise the value of their investments without immediately bringing the family’s overall ownership to an end. A broader sale, on the other hand, could potentially create an opportunity for a new investor to acquire control of Manchester United.

However, either option would involve considerable financial and organisational complexity. Manchester United is a publicly traded company, and any major ownership transaction would need to account for its share structure, voting rights and existing agreements.

The Glazers would also need to agree on the future of their holdings, particularly if some family members wanted to remain involved while others preferred to sell.

This disagreement could prove to be one of the biggest obstacles to a complete sale. Reports have indicated that the family has not reached a unified position, meaning supporters should not interpret the discussions as confirmation that a takeover is imminent.

Nevertheless, the possibility of a sale is attracting attention because of the financial demands facing Manchester United.

The club must continue investing in its squad while addressing the long-term future of Old Trafford. Discussions about redeveloping the stadium or building a new ground involve enormous financial commitments, and the ownership structure could influence how those plans are financed.

A new investor might be willing to commit significant capital to infrastructure, recruitment and other areas of the club. However, that outcome would depend on the investor’s priorities, financial resources and willingness to fund improvements.

A change of ownership would not automatically guarantee success on the pitch, but it could create an opportunity to reconsider the club’s long-term strategy.

For Manchester United supporters, the prospect of a sale is particularly significant because of the relationship between the club’s ownership and its financial history.

The Glazers’ leveraged buyout remains one of the defining controversies of their time at Old Trafford. Critics have long argued that the debt associated with the acquisition placed an unnecessary burden on a club that had previously enjoyed an exceptionally strong financial position.

Their opponents have also questioned the pace of investment in stadium facilities and other infrastructure, particularly as rival clubs have modernised their grounds and expanded their commercial operations.

These concerns have helped sustain protests against the family over the years.

However, any future owner would face the same fundamental challenge: Manchester United needs to combine financial sustainability with the investment required to compete for the biggest trophies in football.

That means making careful decisions about player recruitment, wages, facilities, academy development and the management of the club’s commercial resources.

A new owner would also inherit the enormous expectations associated with Manchester United. Supporters expect the team to challenge for the Premier League and Champions League, and patience could quickly disappear if a change of ownership failed to deliver meaningful progress.

The question of potential buyers has also become part of the discussion.

Manchester United’s global popularity means that a sale could attract interest from wealthy individuals, investment groups and international investors. However, the existence of possible buyers should not be confused with a confirmed offer.

Speculation about investors from the Middle East has circulated alongside reports of the Glazers’ deliberations, but there has been no verified announcement establishing that a particular investor has agreed to purchase the family’s shares.

One name that appeared in online speculation was Dubai-based businessman Hussain Sajwani. However, a September 2026 report by TEAMtalk stated that the Sajwani family was not interested in purchasing a stake in Manchester United, contradicting rumours that had circulated on social media.

For that reason, it remains too early to identify a likely new owner.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is another important figure in the discussion. Having already invested in Manchester United and assumed responsibility for football operations, his position could become significant if the Glazers decide to sell their remaining holdings.

A potential transaction involving Ratcliffe would depend on the terms offered, the financial arrangements and the willingness of the relevant shareholders to reach an agreement. There is no confirmed announcement that he has agreed to buy the Glazers’ remaining shares.

For now, Manchester United’s ownership future remains uncertain.

The timing of the discussions is also important because the club’s footballing ambitions continue to place pressure on its leadership. Manchester United cannot afford to allow uncertainty behind the scenes to distract from the need to improve results and build a competitive squad.

The club has experienced too many disappointing campaigns in recent years, and supporters want to see a clear plan for restoring its position among Europe’s strongest teams.

A new ownership arrangement could create opportunities, but it would not solve every problem automatically. The club would still need effective recruitment, strong coaching, a coherent playing philosophy and consistent performances from its players.

Investment alone cannot guarantee trophies. Manchester United’s future will depend on how effectively the people responsible for the club use the resources available to them.

Nevertheless, the possibility of the Glazers selling their stake represents an important development for anyone following the club’s ownership situation.

For supporters who have campaigned for a complete change since 2005, the prospect of the family considering an exit will naturally generate optimism. Yet the distinction between discussing a sale and completing one remains crucial.

The family has not publicly confirmed a decision to sell the club outright, and no completed transaction has been announced. Any significant development would need to be supported by reliable reporting or an official statement.

Until then, Manchester United fans will continue watching closely for signs of what the Glazers intend to do.

If the family eventually agrees to sell its controlling interest, the club could enter a new chapter in its history. If the discussions end without a deal, the existing ownership structure could remain in place, leaving Ratcliffe and INEOS responsible for football operations under the current arrangement.

Either outcome would have important implications for Manchester United’s long-term direction.

For now, the biggest development is that members of the Glazer family have reportedly been considering their options after more than 20 years at Old Trafford. Whether those discussions eventually lead to a partial sale or a complete departure remains unresolved.
