“He was the worst Arsenal player last season and he’s now the overall best player at the World Cup so far…He doesn’t like Arsenal, it’s clear”: Arsene Wenger names ONE Arsenal’s player who was the Gunners worst player last season but now the best player in the World Cup

Former Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger has reportedly questioned Martin Ødegaard’s recent performances for Arsenal, suggesting that the Norwegian captain has been displaying a different level of confidence and influence while representing his national team.

According to the reports circulating on social media, Wenger believes Ødegaard has looked far more expressive, creative and aggressive for Norway than he has in an Arsenal shirt in recent months.

The former Gunners boss is said to have praised the midfielder’s outstanding display during Norway’s impressive World Cup campaign, where Ødegaard has been at the heart of everything positive. His movement, vision, leadership and willingness to take responsibility have once again reminded football fans why he is regarded as one of Europe’s finest playmakers.

For Arsenal supporters, however, the comparison raises an important question. Why does Ødegaard appear to play with greater freedom for his country than he sometimes does for his club?

There are several possible explanations. Norway’s tactical system is built around allowing Ødegaard complete creative freedom, giving him the opportunity to dictate the tempo, drift into dangerous spaces and combine regularly with attacking stars like Erling Haaland and Antonio Nusa. Every attacking move naturally flows through the captain.

At Arsenal, the responsibilities are different. Mikel Arteta demands intense pressing, tactical discipline and defensive work from his attacking midfielders. Ødegaard often has to balance creativity with structure, making his role more demanding than the one he enjoys with Norway.

Even so, many fans believe Arsenal need to see more of the fearless version of Ødegaard that has impressed throughout the World Cup. His ability to unlock stubborn defences, create chances and inspire teammates has been evident whenever he pulls on the Norway shirt.

Despite recent criticism, Ødegaard remains one of Arsenal’s most influential players and an undisputed leader in Arteta’s squad. Since becoming club captain, he has helped transform Arsenal into genuine Premier League and Champions League contenders through his technical quality, work ethic and professionalism.

With the new season approaching, Arsenal supporters will be hoping their captain can carry his outstanding international form back to North London. If Ødegaard can reproduce the confidence, creativity and authority he has shown for Norway, the Gunners will have every reason to believe they can compete for the biggest trophies once again.

Whether Wenger actually made the reported comments or not, there is little doubt that Ødegaard’s World Cup performances have reminded everyone of his exceptional talent. Arsenal fans will now be eager to see that same version of their captain wearing the famous red and white shirt throughout the upcoming campaign.
