BREAKING: Michael Carrick confirmed Leny Yoro will never…..see more

Posted on October 25, 2026 by admin

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has come under increasing pressure following his team’s disappointing 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford, with defender Leny Yoro facing criticism after his costly mistake contributed directly to the visitors’ second goal.

The French defender endured a difficult afternoon as Manchester United’s defensive weaknesses were exposed once again, leaving Carrick with serious questions about his team’s concentration, organisation and ability to handle pressure in crucial moments.

The defeat was another painful result for Manchester United supporters, who had hoped their team would respond positively after their disappointing midweek performance against Como. Instead, Bournemouth took full advantage of United’s defensive mistakes, scoring three goals and leaving Carrick facing renewed questions about his future at the club.

Yoro’s mistake before half-time proved particularly damaging because it came just minutes after Bournemouth had taken the lead. Manchester United were already struggling to establish control of the game, and conceding a second goal so quickly made their task considerably more difficult.

The incident happened when Yoro lost his footing under pressure from Bournemouth’s Adrien Truffert. The defender’s slip allowed Truffert to advance and deliver a simple pass across the penalty area to Marcus Tavernier, who had little difficulty finishing into an unguarded net.

It was the kind of defensive error that can completely change the direction of a football match, particularly when a team is already struggling with confidence. Rather than giving Manchester United an opportunity to regroup and search for an equaliser, the mistake left them two goals behind before the interval.

Carrick was visibly frustrated as his players headed towards the dressing room, with the manager facing the difficult task of explaining another disappointing performance from a team that desperately needed a positive result.

Although the mistake was unfortunate, Yoro’s positioning and decision-making became major talking points after the goal. Manchester United had already looked vulnerable defensively, and the young defender’s inability to maintain his footing at such an important moment gave Bournemouth an opportunity they were never going to waste.

The manager’s frustration will be understandable because mistakes of this nature can undermine an entire team’s efforts. Players are expected to remain composed under pressure, particularly when representing a club with Manchester United’s ambitions.

However, the circumstances surrounding Yoro’s performance also deserve consideration. The Frenchman is naturally a centre-back, but he has been deployed at right-back as Manchester United attempt to cope with problems elsewhere in their defensive line. Playing outside his preferred position can create difficulties, especially against opponents who apply pressure and attack quickly.

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville also criticised the decision to use Yoro at right-back, arguing that the young defender looked uncomfortable in the role. His assessment raised questions about whether the player’s difficulties were entirely down to individual mistakes or whether the team’s tactical arrangement had contributed to the problem.

For Carrick, the challenge is finding the right balance between holding players accountable and ensuring they receive the support necessary to perform at their best.

Manchester United cannot afford to continue conceding avoidable goals if they hope to turn their season around. The defeat against Bournemouth demonstrated how quickly defensive mistakes can destroy a team’s chances of collecting points, particularly when the opposition is organised and confident.

Bournemouth’s second goal was especially damaging because it arrived just five minutes after Rayan had opened the scoring. That rapid succession of goals exposed Manchester United’s inability to settle themselves after suffering an initial setback.

Instead of responding with greater discipline, United allowed Bournemouth to exploit another opportunity. Tavernier’s finish made the score 2-0 and left the home supporters increasingly frustrated with what they were witnessing.

Carrick will now have to decide whether Yoro should retain his place in the starting lineup or whether a different defensive arrangement is necessary for the team’s next fixture. Dropping the youngster could send a strong message about accountability, but it could also damage his confidence at a time when he needs guidance and consistent opportunities to develop.

The manager must also consider whether moving Yoro back into his natural centre-back position would help him regain his composure. A young defender’s development can be affected when he is repeatedly asked to perform unfamiliar responsibilities in a struggling team.

Nevertheless, Manchester United’s defensive problems extend beyond one player. Yoro’s mistake was costly, but the team’s overall performance raised questions about defensive organisation, communication and the ability of experienced players to guide younger teammates through difficult periods.

The responsibility for preventing goals cannot rest on one defender alone. Manchester United must improve their collective defensive structure, protect their back line through better midfield organisation and ensure that individual errors do not immediately become devastating setbacks.

The 3-0 defeat also increased the scrutiny surrounding Carrick’s management. Supporters expected a stronger response from the players, but Bournemouth looked more organised and took advantage of the opportunities presented to them.

The result left Manchester United facing another difficult period, with the manager under pressure to demonstrate that he can restore confidence and improve the team’s performances. The decision to leave captain Bruno Fernandes on the bench attracted attention before the match, while the disappointing result intensified questions about Carrick’s tactical decisions.

Yoro’s mistake therefore became part of a much bigger conversation about Manchester United’s current difficulties. Even so, the defender must learn from the incident and demonstrate that he can respond positively when given another opportunity.

For a player of his age, making mistakes is not unusual. What matters is how he responds, whether he improves his decision-making and whether he can maintain his concentration when opponents apply pressure.

Manchester United supporters will want to see a more reliable defensive performance in the coming matches. They will also expect Carrick to make difficult decisions when players fail to meet the standards required at Old Trafford.

Ultimately, Bournemouth’s second goal exposed both an individual mistake and the wider defensive problems affecting Manchester United. Yoro will face criticism for losing possession of the situation at a crucial moment, but the manager must also examine whether his tactical choices placed the young defender in a position where he was less comfortable.

Manchester United need answers quickly. With confidence fading and pressure increasing, Carrick must find a way to restore defensive stability, while Yoro must show that this difficult afternoon will become a learning experience rather than a defining moment in his career.
