BREAKING: Mikel Arteta confirmed Max Dowman will start against….see more

Posted on November 3, 2026 by admin

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly considering handing teenage sensation Max Dowman a starting opportunity when the Gunners take on Slavia Prague in the UEFA Champions League tomorrow night.

The highly rated youngster could be one of the biggest beneficiaries of Arteta’s planned squad rotation as Arsenal prepare for another important European encounter.

Dowman has continued to attract attention with his impressive performances, maturity and confidence despite his young age. The Arsenal academy graduate has already demonstrated that he possesses the technical ability and attacking intelligence to compete at a high level, and Arteta appears increasingly convinced that the teenager deserves more opportunities in the first team.

According to recent predicted lineups, Dowman is strongly positioned to start against Slavia Prague at the Fortuna Arena on Wednesday. Although an official starting lineup has not yet been announced, the circumstances surrounding Arsenal’s squad make the possibility particularly interesting.

One major reason behind the potential decision is Dowman’s availability for European football. The youngster is currently serving a three-match domestic suspension following his sending-off against Fleetwood Town in the Carabao Cup. However, that suspension does not prevent him from featuring in UEFA competitions, meaning Wednesday’s Champions League fixture provides an opportunity for him to return to action.

Arteta must also consider the physical condition of several attacking players. Bukayo Saka remains unavailable because of a quad injury, while Noni Madueke played the entire match against Liverpool at Anfield. Giving Madueke an opportunity to rest could make Dowman an attractive option on the right side of Arsenal’s attack.

The teenager’s ability to operate in wide attacking positions makes him particularly useful for Arteta’s tactical system. He possesses excellent close control, impressive dribbling ability and the confidence to take on defenders in one-versus-one situations. These qualities could become important against a Slavia Prague side that will be determined to make life difficult for the Premier League champions.

Arteta also understands that introducing young players requires careful management. He does not want to place unnecessary pressure on Dowman, but he equally recognises that the youngster needs competitive opportunities to continue developing.

The Arsenal manager has previously demonstrated his willingness to trust academy graduates when they show the necessary quality. Dowman’s progress has strengthened the belief that he could become another important product of the club’s Hale End academy.

Another interesting aspect of tomorrow’s potential selection is the opportunity Dowman could have to create Champions League history. If selected from the beginning, he would become Arsenal’s youngest-ever Champions League starter, surpassing the previous record held by Cesc Fabregas.

That would represent another extraordinary achievement in what has already been a remarkable journey for the young attacker.

Arsenal are expected to make several changes following their demanding 1-0 victory over Liverpool. Arteta will want to maintain the team’s competitive momentum while ensuring that his most important players are physically prepared for the matches ahead.

Dowman’s inclusion could therefore represent an important opportunity for both the player and the manager. The youngster would have the chance to demonstrate his qualities on the European stage, while Arteta would be able to assess how effectively he can contribute from the beginning of a Champions League match.

There is also the question of Arsenal’s attacking creativity. With Saka unavailable, the Gunners need players capable of providing unpredictability in the final third. Dowman could offer something different through his direct running, movement and willingness to attack defenders.

His confidence on the ball is particularly encouraging. Rather than constantly looking for safe passes, the youngster is comfortable attempting difficult actions that can create opportunities for his teammates. That attacking mentality is something Arteta will certainly appreciate.

However, Slavia Prague will not make things easy for Arsenal. Playing away from home in the Champions League presents a different challenge, and Dowman would need to demonstrate discipline, concentration and tactical awareness throughout the encounter.

If Arteta eventually decides to include him in the starting eleven, it would be another indication of the manager’s confidence in his development.

Arsenal supporters will undoubtedly be excited about the possibility of seeing the teenager take another important step in his career. His potential is enormous, but the most important thing is ensuring that he continues developing without unnecessary expectations.

For now, all attention will be on Arteta’s final team selection. Dowman is strongly tipped to start, and Wednesday’s encounter could provide another memorable chapter in his young Arsenal career.
